Pay Calculation Notice
This notice explains how Rosteno calculates expected pay and how comparison results should be understood.
1. Mathematical Calculations Based on Published Rules
Rosteno provides deterministic calculations for supported Modern Award conditions. Calculations use public rates and provisions from the Fair Work Commission Modern Awards Pay Database.
In this release, automated expected pay calculations apply strictly to worker-confirmed conditions under the General Retail Industry Award 2020 [MA000004].
Other awards, enterprise agreements, and non-supported arrangements are classified as unsupported in this release. Workers covered by other instruments can still use Rosteno to log rosters, track clock punches, record breaks, store payslips, and export Evidence Review Packs.
2. Why Worker Confirmation Matters
Rosteno does not make assumptions about your employment. Accurate calculations require:
- A confirmed award and classification level.
- A valid pay period anchor date to align pay cycles.
- Worker-confirmed break payment status (Paid, Unpaid, or Not sure).
If required details are missing or an award is not currently supported, Rosteno displays Not calculated rather than a misleading zero-dollar figure.
3. Understanding Reconciliation Differences
When you import a payslip, Rosteno compares your recorded hours and expected earnings against your payslip. The app reports results in neutral, factual language:
- Matches expected: The payslip figures align with the calculated amounts.
- Possible pay difference: A numerical variance exists between the payslip gross and the calculated gross.
- Needs review: An item requires manual inspection, such as an unmapped allowance.
A reported difference is a factual mathematical comparison. It is not a legal finding of underpayment, wage theft, or employer breach. Differences can happen for valid payroll reasons, such as salary sacrifice, allowances, annual leave, or pre-tax deductions.
